Fun in the bull ring after the run. Family preparing the table for the day.
Every year in Spain each town has its own Fiesta which lasts the whole week. The town shuts down and everyone parties for that week, there are outdoor bars with music, parades for the towns Churches, parades for the children, fancy dress contests, fiesta market stalls throughout the streets were you can buy anything from pots and pans to full traditional dress. Traditional dance and live bands in the football stadium where everyone of the family from baby to granny go for fun nights out. Families take their tables and chairs outside to sit and eat with family and friends and will sit there all day as visitor after visitor arrives. By far the most impressive night is the service at the Sanctuary. The night starts off with a service and then some dancing, followed by the Shrine of Our Lady of Hope being carried through the crowds as the service continues with the locals following holding candles this is known as the torchlight parade.
There is a daily bull run throught the streets of Calasparra, truly a sight to see, then into the bull ring for the towns youngsters to try their hand at out running the bull, some even manage to jump over the bull as he runs round the ring. Below I have added some photographs of this years fiesta. Whatever your feelings about the bull run you will feel the Spanish joy as they celebrate their fiesta in their way.
